MOBILE iOS APP

Aster

Aster is a women's health app designed to support women through every stage of their reproductive journey. As an early-stage startup, they needed a product designed from the ground up.

I partnered with stakeholders to define the
vision, create the user experience, and build a scalable foundation for future growth.

MY DESIGN PROCESS

Building a healthcare product from scratch required balancing user needs, business goals, and medical credibility. Rather than following a traditional linear UX process, I used an AI-assisted product design workflow that combined research, rapid exploration, and continuous validation.

Defining the
product
vision

Aster started as an idea with a broad mission: help women better understand their health. Working closely with stakeholders, I helped shape the product strategy, identify key user journeys, and define the features that would deliver the most value.

Building the
Information
Architecture

Women's health is complex. Users may be tracking their cycle, trying to conceive, navigating pregnancy, or managing postpartum recovery.

I created the information architecture from scratch, organizing content, features, and navigation into a structure that felt simple, intuitive, and easy to explore.

Understanding

User Needs

User interviews revealed that many women were relying on multiple apps, websites, and online communities to answer basic health questions.

The opportunity was clear: create a single experience that helps women find information, understand it, and take action with confidence.

Designing the

Onboarding

Experience

Personalization was critical from the first interaction.

I designed an onboarding flow that captured health goals, cycle information, lifestyle habits, and preferences to create a tailored experience for every user.

Creating Personalized Health Journeys

Every woman's health journey is different.
Whether users were tracking their cycle, planning a pregnancy, expecting a child, or recovering postpartum, the experience adapted to their needs with relevant content, recommendations, and guidance.

Designing
Premium
Experience

Premium features were designed to provide value beyond basic tracking.

Personalized insights, AI-powered recommendations, and educational content helped users better understand their health and encouraged deeper engagement with the platform.

Turning
Data Into
Insights

Health data is only useful when people can understand it.

Charts, summaries, and visual trends transformed complex information into simple insights that helped users recognize patterns and monitor changes over time.

Designing for
Long-Term
Engagement

The experience was designed to provide value beyond daily tracking.

Health milestones, educational content, personalized recommendations, and AI-powered guidance encouraged users to return regularly and stay engaged throughout their journey.

Building a
Foundation for
Growth

Through research, strategy, and iterative design, Aster evolved from an idea into a fully realized iOS product.

The result was a scalable platform capable of supporting new health journeys, AI-powered experiences, and future business growth.

Key

Takeaway

Designing Aster from the ground up required balancing medical credibility with simplicity.

The challenge wasn't helping women collect more health data, it was helping them understand what that data means.

By focusing on personalization, education, and trust, I created a foundation for a product that can grow alongside its users.

NEXT CASE STUDY

A case study of all the iterations was not possible. So below are images of other iterations during my time with Nixon. To decide what solution works best it's important to understand why some design solutions will not solve the problem.

Let's
build something meaningful together!
